Faith Aid Partners with Tenwek Hospital to Provide Life-Saving Neurosurgery to Needy Patients
Faith Aid has awarded a grant to Tenwek Hospital to extend the love of Christ to patients unable to afford neurosurgical interventions. In many parts of the world, including Kenya, affordability becomes a significant barrier to life-saving treatments, particularly in complex cases such as neurosurgery. However, thanks to the remarkable collaboration between Faith Aid and Tenwek Hospital, a new chapter of hope has emerged for patients in need of neurosurgical interventions. Faith Aid’s recent grant to Tenwek Hospital is set to transform the lives of dozens of individuals who otherwise would have been unable to afford crucial neurosurgical treatment.
Faith Aid is a U.S. based 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to caring for the sick and suffering in Jesus’ name. Tenwek Hospital is a 361 bed capacity Teaching and Referral Mission Hospital in Kenya that operates under the motto “We Treat, Jesus Heals.”
This shared vision lends itself to a powerful partnership between Faith Aid and Tenwek. Together, they are sharing the good news of the Gospel alongside compassionate and life saving neurosurgical care.
Among other neurosurgical conditions, hydrocephalus and spina bifida are two significant conditions that affect individuals in Kenya, particularly children. Hydrocephalus, characterized by the abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain, can lead to increased pressure and potential brain damage or death if left untreated. Spina bifida, a neural tube defect, occurs when the spinal column does not fully close during fetal development, resulting in a range of complications, including paralysis, bladder and bowel dysfunction, and cognitive impairments.
In Kenya, the prevalence of hydrocephalus and spina bifida is significant, and many cases go undiagnosed or untreated due to limited access to healthcare services, financial constraints, and a lack of awareness about these conditions. This results in devastating consequences for affected individuals, often leading to lifelong disabilities and increased mortality rates. The collaboration between Faith Aid and Tenwek Hospital addresses these challenges head-on, working towards reducing the burden of hydrocephalus and spina bifida in Kenya.
Recognizing the critical need for affordable neurosurgical care, Faith Aid awarded a 12-month, approximately $45,000 USD grant to Tenwek Hospital (with options to increase as additional donations are received). This grant is specifically designed to assist patients unable to afford neurosurgical treatments, providing them with access to life-saving interventions. The collaboration between Faith Aid and Tenwek Hospital empowers patients to receive timely diagnosis, treatments, and post-operative care, significantly increasing their chances of survival and recovery. By removing the financial barriers that hindered access to neurosurgery, this partnership brings hope and healing to impoverished patients who would have otherwise faced dire consequences.
Faith Aid and Tenwek Hospital understand that their impact extends beyond the walls of the hospital. Another Faith Aid supported ministry, Mustard Seed House at Tenwek Hospital, plays a crucial role in complementing this neurosurgery grant by removing additional barriers to care. Mustard Seed House provides accommodation and distinctly Christian care to patients and their families who are seeking treatment at Tenwek Hospital. By offering a comfortable and supportive environment, Mustard Seed House ensures that patients and their families have a safe place to stay during their treatment journey. This is particularly vital for patients who may come from remote areas and would otherwise face challenges in finding suitable accommodations near the hospital. The compassionate care provided at Mustard Seed House not only eases the burden of travel and accommodation expenses but also offers emotional and spiritual support to patients and their families during what can be a challenging time.
The inspiring partnership between Faith Aid and Tenwek Hospital transcends the realm of healthcare, merging faith, compassion, and medical expertise to transform the lives of impoverished patients in Kenya. Through their collaboration, they address the financial barriers that hinder access to life-saving neurosurgical treatments, restoring hope and healing to individuals who would have otherwise been left untreated. The joint efforts of Faith Aid and Tenwek Hospital, driven by their shared mission to care for the sick and suffering in Jesus’ name, highlight the transformative power of compassionate healthcare interventions.
