***Life- Changing Surgery for Saida***
Saida is nine months old and was born with a cleft palate and finger and toe deformities. Her parents are impoverished and became devastated thinking that no one could help their child. Like many children with cleft palates, Saida has been hospitalized for malnutrition.
Thankfully, a social worker introduced Saida and her family to Under Five in October 2018. Saida’s journey to recovery has been long and wrought with challenges. Due to low weight and poor nutrition she was not ready for surgery. The Under Five team has worked tirelessly with Saida and her young parents through endless doctor’s visits, medication changes, and a weeklong hospitalization to prepare her for what will be a life-changing surgery.

Questions & Answers
Can you tell me more about your organization?
Faith Aid & Development moves mountains for vulnerable children in Africa. Our organization is founded on Christ’s promise, that “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move” (Matthew 17:20). Our vision is a world where no child dies from treatable conditions.
What is Under Five?
Under Five saves the lives of African children suffering from preventable or treatable conditions. Across Kenya, community health workers, pastors, churches, hospitals, and organizations refer the most desperate children and families to Under Five.
What does the “Under Five” name mean?
Across the world, the under-five mortality rate measures the probability of dying between birth and 5 years of age. While much progress has been made globally to reduce under-five mortality rates, the highest rates of child mortality are still in Sub-Saharan Africa where 1 in 9 children dies before age five. Children under five are among the most vulnerable and voiceless in society. Under Five focuses on child survival and treatment for African children 5 years of age and younger.
Is your team on the ground in Kenya with Saida?
Yes. Under Five has a team in Kenya. Our team identifies, investigates, and builds a personal relationship with all children and families we serve.
