Samuel***Samuel is in the emergency room receiving treatment for pneumonia***

On October 31st, one- year- old Samuel was taken to the hospital because he was having trouble breathing. After examination doctors decided to admit him to the Emergency Room because of his low oxygen levels. Samuel was diagnosed with Pneumonia and will undergo tests for additional complications. We are thankful that we were able to get Samuel to the hospital in time. An Under Five field worker expressed great relief saying, “We thank God that Under Five took Samuel to the hospital because we could have lost him.”

Samuel is doing much better in the hospital through medication and proper nutrition. Your support in this campaign will help us cover the cost associated with Samuel’s hospital stay and recovery, including medication, nutritional assistance, chest x-rays, and blood tests.

Pneumonia is responsible for 18% of preventable non-neonatal child deaths in Sub-Saharan Africa. Pneumonia is caused by infectious agents. Children weakened by malnutrition are at heightened risk. Under Five trains parents and guardians on pneumonia prevention, including reducing indoor air pollution from cooking, and provides treatment and access to care for impoverished children suffering from pneumonia and other respiratory conditions.

Questions & Answers

Can you tell me more about your organization?

Faith Aid & Development moves mountains for vulnerable children in Africa. Our organization is founded on Christ’s promise, that “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move” (Matthew 17:20). Our vision is a world where no child dies from treatable conditions.

What is Under Five?

Under Five saves the lives of African children suffering from preventable or treatable conditions.  Across Kenya, community health workers, pastors, churches, hospitals, and organizations refer the most desperate children and families to Under Five.

What does the “Under Five” name mean?

Across the world, the under-five mortality rate measures the probability of dying between birth and 5 years of age. While much progress has been made globally to reduce under-five mortality rates, the highest rates of child mortality are still in Sub-Saharan Africa where 1 in 9 children dies before age five. Children under five are among the most vulnerable and voiceless in society. Under Five focuses on child survival and treatment for African children 5 years of age and younger.

Is your team on the ground in Kenya with Samuel?

Yes. Under Five has a team in Kenya. Our team identifies, investigates, and builds a personal relationship with all children and families we serve.
